HOW WERE YOUR EYES OPENED? (John chapter 9) "SOMETIME AGO I WAS BLIND NOW I CAN SEE". By Rev Nana Francis Essel-Okyeahene 1 (PhD) (John 9 – A Sermon Reflection for the Heart) Beloved, John chapter 9 asks every believer a personal and unavoidable question: How were your eyes opened? There was a man born blind—no memory of light, no image of color, no knowledge of faces. Blindness was all he had ever known. Yet on an ordinary day, Jesus passed by and turned an ordinary moment into a divine encounter. This reminds us that Jesus does not wait for perfect moments; He creates them. The disciples asked, “Who sinned, this man or his parents?” But Jesus shifted the focus from blame to purpose: “This happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” Beloved, some of the things we call delays or disadvantages are actually platforms for God’s glory. Jesus made clay with saliva and touched the man’s eyes. It was uncomfortable. It was unusual. It did not look like healing yet. But often, God opens our eyes through processes we do not understand. Then Jesus said, “Go and wash.” The miracle was completed in obedience. When the man returned seeing, everyone asked him, “How were your eyes opened?” His answer was simple: “The man called Jesus made mud, put it on my eyes, and told me to wash—and now I see.” No arguments. No religious language. Just truth. The Pharisees investigated him, doubted him, and attacked his credibility. They were learned, religious, and confident—yet spiritually blind. Meanwhile, the man who once sat begging now stood boldly in truth. Sometimes the ones who think they see the most are the most blind. Even his parents were afraid to speak. But the man refused to deny his experience. He declared: “One thing I know: I was blind, but now I see.” Beloved, when God opens your eyes, your testimony becomes your authority. Because he spoke the truth, he was cast out. But hear this good news: Jesus found him. When religion rejected him, Jesus revealed Himself to him. The man moved from physical sight to spiritual revelation—and he worshipped. So today, the question is not only how his eyes were opened—but how were yours opened? ■Was it through pain? ●Through loss? ●Through failure? ●Through a moment of desperation? ●Through an encounter you never planned? Whatever the process, give glory to Jesus. May we never pretend to see when we are blind, and may we never be silent when God has opened our eyes. How were your eyes opened? NANA (ONUA FRANCIS) HAS STORY TO TELL AS HIS TESTIMONY.
